How To: Clarify Your Hair

  Does it seem like the benefits of your shampoo and conditioner aren't working anymore? Does your hair seem "heavy" or look "gross" to you?

You probably need to clarify your hair.

Clarifying cleanses your scalp and hair of any product buildup. The first time I did it, my hair felt so lightweight, and it looked shiny and bouncy too!

However, it took me quite awhile to find the right clarifier for me. I tried expensive clarifying shampoos, cheap clarifying shampoos, apple cider vinegar, and baking soda. The shampoos were the worst! They left my hair dry and my scalp itchy. The natural products were better, but they were hard to wash out, and my hair and scalp did not respond well.

I remember watching t.v., and a Dawn dish soap commercial came on. You know the one where they wash the oily ducks? I thought to myself  "If Dawn dish soap can wash oil off ducklings, why can't it wash out product buildup on my hair?"

The rest is history.

I LOVE using Dawn dish soap to clarify my hair! It bubbles up a tiny bit, so it feels like a shampoo, and it gets rid of all my product buildup. I have a specific way to use it, are you ready?

{How to clarify your hair}

1. In the shower, wet your hair.

2. Apply your favorite conditioner(or deep conditioner) to only the ends of your hair. Do NOT let it get on your scalp!

3. Brush through the conditioned part of your hair with a wide tooth comb until there are no tangles.

4. Squirt a nickel size amount of Dawn dish soap onto the tips of your fingers.

5. Gently scrub into your scalp. Don't go crazy, you want to keep your hair tangle free!

6. Scrub your entire scalp with the soap.

7. Rinse out your hair with warm water.

Now you can enjoy your brand new hair! I recommend doing this once a week, depending on your hair.

Peace & Sunshine,
